Calendar Event: March 6, 2010

One Thousand Pulses, the home concert series for electronic & experimental music, is pleased to present Richard Lainhart, who will be bringing his unique blend of audio/visual design to our performance space on Saturday, March 6.

Well-versed in the varied applications of his beloved Buchla boxes, yet equally agile on numerous synths, keyboards, vibes, and guitars, Richard Lainhart has been reorganizing the topography of tone and texture for over 30 years. After studying composition in Albany under EMF founder & professor Joel Chadabe, Lainhart not only went on to create idiosyncratic recordings in his own right, but has performed and worked with the likes of John Cage, David Tudor, Steve Reich, Phill Niblock, David Berhman, and many others. His 1987 debut recording These Last Days, on the late New York label Periodic Music, remains an unsung classic of post-academic computer music thanks to its beguiling, animated sequences, sprightly momentum, and subtly effective reorganization of electronic & acoustic sounds. In addition to subsequent releases on the XI and Ex Ovo labels, Australian imprint Vicmod are prepping Richard’s mid-70s Moog recordings for CD issue in March.

As his online bio notes, “Since childhood, Richard’s been interested in natural processes such as waves, flames and clouds, in harmonics and harmony, and in creative interactions with machines, using them as compositional methods to present sounds and images that are as beautiful as he can make them.”
